Any female may come to Wellspring – there is no other criterion. Wellspring guests are diverse in age, personal background, religion and ethnicity. Almost all are from the Oak Park community, an economically disadvantaged area in Sacramento with a large immigrant population. The average income of Wellspring guests is at or below poverty level.
Many are young mothers seeking some adult companionship or a break from the demands of child rearing. Wellspring provides a sense of family to older single women without a local support system. Immigrant women find Wellspring a comfortable gathering place for cultural camaraderie. A small percentage of Wellspring guests are homeless. Most guests come daily to Wellspring, if only for breakfast.
Regardless of status or reason for coming, Wellspring welcomes all guests and their children valuing them as individuals worthy of basic human kindness, dignity and respect!
