Advocacy

“Strength breeds strength.  In truth, the act of building up one’s neighbor is among the most selfish of things.”

Wellspring Women’s Center’s mission of offering “hospitality with dignity and love” demands, by definition, the protection and nurturing of dignity, something so frequently denied to women throughout history.  Wellspring Women’s Center made history with the development of our advocacy program and the Guest Action Committee, working towards  Transit Equity and community engagement.

Working on Transit Equity

Since December, 2014 Guest Action Committee at Wellspring Women’s Center has worked diligently in effort to gain information and partnerships to further the cause. The need to support and advocate for Sacramento’s indigent population is as strong as ever.  We have addressed Regional Transit transit wall 5formally during public board meetings, organized group actions and demonstrations and pursued the spread of information.

Isolation is one of the most difficult circumstances to overcome. Women, families, the elderly, minimum wage workers and people of color tend to be those most affected by poverty . These are people with few options for one reason or another, resourceful people who are challenged daily to make stretch what should be gone. The cost of public transportation as it is now is simply too big a burden to bear for someone who is facing issues of food security, safe housing and child care while working a low paying job.
